BUYING GUIDE - Skateboard Completes

We provide a range of skateboards in what is known as 'complete' set-ups. This is for various reasons:

1 - Complete Skateboards from brands such as Alien Workshop, Bullet, World industries, Baker etc generally offer better value for money as you tend to get an, 'across the board discount' on the whole set up

2 - Complete Skateboards from brands such as Alien Workshop, Bullet, World industries, Baker etc offer the correct level of wheels, trucks and decks to complete a skateboard for a rider of a certain level

3 - Complete Skateboards also help take some of the confusion out of what skate hardware goes with which other pieces of skate hardware the best

BUYING GUIDE - Skateboard decks
Skateboard decks can vary from 6.5 to 10 inches wide. It depends on your ride style and personal preference as to what size suits you the best. Most common width for street and technical skating is 7.5-8 inches. Generally, wider and longer skateboard decks are used for park and pipe skating to as they provide more stability while riding and on landing. Most skateboard decks are between 29 and 33 inches. The width of a skateboard deck is always proportionate to the length of the deck. Below is an indication of what sizes and ride styles you should be/have to ride certain types of skateboard deck

Micro
Deck width: 6.5" to 6.75"
Deck length: 27.2" to 27.6"
For skaters 5 years or younger, under 3'4" tall who wear a size 3 shoe or smaller

Mini
Deck width: 7.0"
Deck length: 28"
For skaters 6 to 8 years old between 3'5" and 4'4" tall who wear size 4-6 shoes

Mid-size
Deck width: 7.3"
Deck length: 29"
For skaters 9 to 12 years old between 4'5" and 5'2" tall who wear size 7-8 shoes

Decks 7.5" or larger
For all skaters over age 13, taller than 5'3" with a shoe size of 9 and up.

However, individual skating style will determine deck size for these decks:
7.5" to 8" - Standard board for adult riders skating streets or doing more technical tricks
8.0" to 8.25" - Skating pools, ramps and parks
8.25" and larger - cruising and pipe skating

BUYING GUIDES - Skateboard Trucks

We stock Skateboard trucks from Independent Trucks, Destructo Trucks, Bullet Trucks, Venturo Trucks, Thuder Trucks and many more

The width of your skateboard truck axles should closely match the width of your skateboard deck. Skateboard truck size can be measured by the width of the hanger or the width of the axle.

Recommended sizes of trucks compared with deck width

7.75" Axle / 5.0" Hanger (129mm) - 7.25" to 8" deck width
8.0" Axle / 5.25" Hanger (139mm) - 8" to 8.5" deck width
8.5" Axle / 5.75" Hanger (149mm) - 8.5" to 9" deck width
9.0" Axle / 6.5" Hanger (169mm) - 9" to 10" deck width

Truck height is the distance between the bottom of the skateboard deck and the hanger. In general, a mid-sized skateboard truck works well for most skateboarders, but high or low trucks may be preferred under these circumstances:

Low: Provides extra stability for flip tricks. Designed for small wheels (50-55mm).

High: Great for cruising and carving. Designed for large wheels (56mm+).

BUYING GUIDES - Skateboard Wheels

Skateboard wheels vary in color, size and density of material. The size and compound of the skateboard wheel will affect the way the board rolls and handles. These variants are a personal preference and will affect the way you and your board rides
Recommended size of skateboard wheels
Smaller wheels are slower, bigger wheels are faster.
52-55mm - Slower, but stable and good for trick riding and smaller riders
56-60mm - Beginners of all sizes on ramp, park and street
60mm+ - Longboards, old-school boards, speed and rougher surfaces
Harder wheels are faster; softer wheels are slower but have better grip.
Note: Standard wheel durometer is 99A.
87a - Soft wheel good for rough surfaces, longboards or street boards that need lots of grip.
95a - Slightly harder and faster with a little less grip, but the grip's still good.
99a - Good speed and grip. Good wheel for beginners, street, ramp and park.
100a+ - Hardest and fastest wheel with the least grip.
